The 22-year-old was one of the hottest prospects on the WorldTour in 2020, only his second year as a pro-rider, winning Fleche Wallone and a stage of the Tour De France.

Team DSM, formerly Sunweb, announced on Wednesday (AEDT) they had terminated the final year of Hirschi’s contract and he would be free to sign with another team for the 2021 season.

However, Hirschi is likely to already have a new home sewn up with Dutch publication Wielerflits reporting a deal with UAE-Team Emirates could be announced in the coming days.
The report said the Swiss connection between Mauro Gianetti at UAE and Hirschi’s agent Fabian Cancellara helped pave the way to get the deal done.

The move would pair Hirschi up with Tour De France winner Tadej Pagacar to give UAE-Team Emirates two of the top young riders on the WorldTour.

After making his professional debut in 2019, Hirschi has quickly shot up the ranks with a breakthrough season in 2020.

After narrowly missing out on stage wins on stage two and stage nine of the 2020 Tour De France, The young rider finally claimed his maiden WouldTour stage win with an incredible ride to take out 218km leg to Sarran Corrèze on stage 12
The former Under-23 world champion went on to win La Fleche Wallone as well as podium finishes at the World Championships and Liege-Bastogne-Liege

Hirschi's premature departure from Team DSM continues a trend of high profile early exits from the German outfit with Tom Dumoulin, Michael Matthews, Warren Barguil and Marcel Kittel other big names to leave the team before the end of their contract.
