Giddey shines again as scouts from top-10 NBA team watch on

18-year-old Australian Josh Giddey has been on fire in the NBL since declaring for the 2021 NBA draft, turning in another outstanding performance in a win over the Sydney Kings with NBA scouts in attendance.

Giddey was everywhere as he put the 36ers on his back to grind out an overtime win over Casper Ware and the Kings on the road, posting his third triple-double in the last four games with 11 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

The point guard's purple patch is propelling Adelaide into playoff contention, which earlier in the season seemed unlikely, and his impact is not going unnoticed by teams across the globe where he hopes to be next year.

Scouts from the 2019 NBA Champion Toronto Raptors were in attendance at Qudos Bank Arena to witness Giddey in action yesterday, fresh from a two-week quarantine and no doubt impressed by what they saw.

Likely to hold a top-10 pick in the first round of the 2021 draft, Giddey is sure to have placed himself firmly high on the Raptors' list, following an earlier report from SBS'  Nick Stoll that he was being projected as a top-10 pick in American media outlets' mock drafts.
While he was aware of the scouts, Giddey didn't let it affect his play or deter his main focus of taking the 36ers to the playoffs.

"I knew they were here but it didn't really impact the way I played or what I was trying to do out there. The stats are cool, but for me it's about wins," Giddey said.

"We've strung three in a row together, so if we can keep that rolling... we're trying to make a push.

"I think there's 4-5 teams in that middle pack that are trying to crack the top four."

Adelaide coach Connor Henry spoke to Giddey's maturity and skill level on the court, revealing the freedom he has given the young gun to play his natural game.

"His confidence is there. The only time I try and wind him back is when he turns the ball over and he realises the times he has to make a few betters decisions," Henry said.

"But I have to also let him be him. That's part of his elite skill level."

Giddey will look to continue his amazing form as the 36ers meet the Illawarra Hawks in the next stop on their road trip tomorrow night, live on SBS On Demand from 7:30pm AEDT.
