The Dane outpaced Sunweb's Lucinda Brand and Lorena Wiebes (Parkhotel Valkenburg) over the line.
“It is incredible,” said Dideriksen. “I am happy that I was strong enough to hold everyone off all the way to the line.”
After the two dramatic stages before it, the 124 kilometres from Stramproy to Weert followed the script with lone wolf Omer Shapira reeled back in after spending over 100 kilometres at the front of the race.
With 14 kilometres to the line, Amy Pieters (Boels-Dolmans) and Lisa Brennauer (Wiggle-High5) attacked the bunch and quickly took a 25-second lead. But the peloton thirsted after the sprint finish and the pair were caught five kilometres later.
Pieters tried another attack, but she was again vanquished by the peloton, this time as the red kite announced the final kilometre.
“We actually agreed to sprint for Amy today," Dideriksen explained. "But then in the final laps, Amy was in the breakaway twice, so Danny (DS) said on the radio with one lap to go ‘Amalie now we do the sprint for you’. So I kind of had to switch my mind.”
“It was quite hectic on the big road with around 1,5 to 2 kilometers to go, so I had to trust my instincts on where to go,” said Dideriksen of the final. “Already from that big road, you have three corners in the real final, so from there on I was a bit on my own.”
“I got the wheel of Lorena Wiebes and she started to sprint and I could wait a little bit. But then I saw people coming from behind, so I had to start pretty early too. Lucinda Brand came really close, but in the end I was able to hold her off. I’m really happy!”
