On home roads, Castrillo surged on the uphill drag to Manzaneda resort, holding off a fast-finishing Max Poole (DSM Firmenich-PostNL) to take a remarkable victory, with Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates) rounding out the top three.
An incredible feat with a host of storylines, Castrillo's performance marks his first ever World Tour win and team Equipo Kern Pharma's first Grand Tour win, coming just one day after the passing of team founder and revered figure in Spanish cycling, Manolo Azcona.

"It really is a very special day," a visibly emotional Castrillo said after the stage.
"I can’t believe I’ve won in my first Vuelta a España. I dedicate this win to my team, to my family and above to all to a very special person, Manolo Azcona, who unfortunately passed away last night.
"I thought about him the whole stage, to win as a tribute.”
Australian Ben O'Connor (AG2R Decathlon La Mondiale) remained safe with his lead unchanged in the red jersey, as the general classification favourites kept the final climb to a non-event with a summit finish looming tonight.
The peloton will take on a 176km route from Lugo which culminates in an ascent finale of the Puerto de Ancares where O'Connor will be under fire again from rivals Primoz Roglic (Red Bull BORA-Hansgrohe) and Enric Mas (Movistar).
