Born in Woodford in the Cheshire region of the U.K., actress Sophie Skelton was the youngest of three children. Both of her parents invented toys for a living. Skelton elected to put off college in favor of pursuing a career as an actress. Skelton's television debut came in 2012 when she played Becca Smith in two episodes of the TV series "DCI Banks" (ITV 2010- ). In 2013 Skelton played the role of Esme Vasquez-Jones in the television series "The Dumping Ground" (CBBC 2013- ). In 2013 and 2014, Skelton appeared as Eve Boston in four episodes of the series "Waterloo Road" (BBC 2006-2015). In 2015 Skelton was cast as Sofia Matthews in the television series "So Awkward" (CBBC 2015- ). She appeared in 13 episodes of the series which followed the lives of three socially awkward teenagers in high school. In 2016 Skelton appeared as the title character in the television miniseries "Ren," a fantasy story about a girl given powers by an ancient spirit. It 2016 it was announced that Skelton would be cast in the role of Brianna in the Starz Original series "Outlander" (Starz 2014-), which follows the story of an Englishwoman who travels through time.
