Johnny Kastl starred for eight seasons on the hit hospital sitcom "Scrubs" as the bumbling Dr. Doug Murphy. Kastl's character was a terrible emergency room doctor, accidentally killing several patients. Ironically, this turned out to be quite helpful, because he ended up becoming a skilled pathologist based on his personal experience with causing deaths. Kastl missed the fourth season of "Scrubs" on account of a skiing accident in which he broke both feet. The amused writers thought this was "a very 'Doug' thing to do," so they actually wrote the self-inflicted injury into the story. Kastl also played recurring character FBI Special Agent Todd Jaracki on the short-lived crime series "The Beast," starring Patrick Swayze as an undercover agent. The show garnered critical plaudits, but was canceled when Swayze succumbed to pancreatic cancer. Kastl can also be seen battling rampaging monsters, terrestrial and otherwise, as a soldier in both "The Hulk" and "War of the Worlds."
