Detlev Buck is a well-known quadruple threat in his native Germany, working on his projects as a writer, director, producer, and actor--though his appearances in his movies are usually cameos rather than principal roles. He is also very versatile, working in different genres; while "Woman in Love" (his 2011 effort) is a broad comedy in the vein of "Tootsie," his award-winning '06 film, "Tough Enough," was more of a gritty crime drama--the latter earned a pair of trophies at the Berlin International Film Festival. Remarkably, during the earliest phases of his career, Buck also worked as an editor and cinematographer on some of his movies before probably realizing that wearing six hats on a movie set was a bit much. As is the case with many German filmmakers, Buck's success in his native country hasn't translated into massive international success. Buck is also known for making cameo appearances in the works of various other German directors.
