I am just so excited. NITV has been nominated for three 2015 TV Week Logie Awards – three out of a total nine for the SBS Network:
- Marngrook Footy Show for Most Popular Sports Program
- NITV News' Moree Report for Most Outstanding News Coverage
- Move it Mobstyle in the Most Outstanding Children’s Program category – their second Logie nomination
I want to congratulate the Marngrook Footy Show for their ‘Most Popular’ nomination, the only non-Channel Nine sports nomination, voted in by the Australian public and a real testament to the loyal fan-base it’s built up across the years.
Last season’s series saw Marngrook achieve all-time record ratings and a massive 200th show special. The show is a firm favourite amongst footy fans and I’m looking forward to welcoming the new series, with its usual mix of footy news, interviews, in-depth analysis, alongside a few laughs, back to NITV’s schedule from TONIGHT!!.
Across September and October last year, our NITV News service revealed exclusive footage of NSW police in riot gear descending on a home in Moree to forcibly remove eight Indigenous children on behalf of Family and Community Services.
Having built up the relationship with the community, our News was able to present this breaking story on a national platform and offer a uniquely Indigenous perspective. Continuous coverage included interviews with family, police, community groups, child welfare advocates, state government representatives and Prime Minister Tony Abbott, which all triggered an ongoing national conversation around the process of child removals. The recognition of NITV News by the Industry is a testament to the team’s dedication to accurate and honest reporting – something that will remain central to the future News and Current Affairs slate.
A second nomination for Move it Mob Style is the perfect recognition of the amazing work that Vibe Australia and the late Gavin Jones produced to engage directly with the hearts of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth. With both educational and entertainment values, the show is an asset to NITV and the wider community. NITV will continue the sentiment that Move it Mob Style started through its future commissioning and focus on improving Indigenous health.
These three nominations, from across the whole channel, are a real testament to the hard word of the Indigenous Media Sector. I am extremely proud to be part of a team that puts the stories and lives of our people at the forefront every day and congratulate everyone involved on this success.
I also want to offer my huge thanks and appreciation to all the Australians who engage with NITV each month across all our platforms - for their continued support and trust in Australia’s national Indigenous broadcaster.
