Almost three months after announcing her retirement, former tennis world number one Ash Barty has released a series of children’s books.
The Little Ash series, recommended for ages 5 and up, is a six-book series inspired by Barty’s five-year-old niece and based on Barty’s own life on and off the court.
“Reading to my nieces and nephew is something I love to do, and seeing their little faces light up when we read a book they love is magic,” the 25-year-old said. The Ngarigo woman worked with Kulkalgal co-author Jasmin McGaughey and Gamilaraay artist Jade Goodwin to create the six books.

“I’ve created Little Ash to be fun and relatable for all kids,” Barty said.
“Supporting kids’ education is something I’m passionate about and if I can help encourage new readers that will make me very happy.”
Barty shocked fans around the world when she announced her retirement in March. At the time she said leaving her beloved sport would make room for her to pursue other dreams.
With a passion for education, Barty has said she wants to travel to rural communities with her series in a bid to inspire young readers.
Barty has also hinted that a memoir could be on the cards, set to be released later in the year.
All six Little Ash books are available to pre-order and will hit shelves in July.
