For a generation, Hartley High is probably remembered with as much fondness and nostalgia as the schools they actually went to.

The 90s TV series 'Heartbreak High' chronicled the exploits of a group of Sydney teenagers for seven much-loved seasons.

The show's realism and sympathy for its young characters, qualities that are rarely seen on television, earned it a devoted audience.

A new generation of viewers may be about to fall in love with the students of Hartley High, as Netflix announced the show would be rebooted in 2022.
Among the diverse cast appearing in the new version is Thomas Weatherall, a Bundjalung actor, and Sherry-Lee Watson.

While the original series was notable for its depiction of a multi-racial Sydney, and the attendant racism that came with it, Weatherall and Watson are two of very few Nations characters.

In its brief description of the reboot's plot and characters, Netflix describes Malakai (played by Weatherall) as “athletic and full of bravado."

"A Bundjalung boy, and new at Hartley High, he’s a basketball natural, hates sitting still, and makes friends easily.”

Watson plays Missy, who is "much more introspective than she lets on. She’s trying to find 'her person' but it’s tough at Hartley High.”
