The Sydney Festival and Queensland Theatre Company are working with the Balnaves Foundation to develop a play that looks at the role of Indigenous soldiers in World War I.
The records of the over 1,000 Indigenous soldiers who served in the first world war have been researched as part of the Black Diggers Project.
"The Sydney Festival and myself had a long tradition of working together and most recently we did 'I am Eora' talking about Sydney and the history of Sydney and the archeology of Sydney," said
Artistic Director of the Queensland Theatre Company, Wesley Enoch.
"To take that idea now and say let's go to Flanders Fields in Belgium and let's go to Ralkkan and let's talk about certain leading figures and get their stories told, I think, it's part of our maturation as a country," Mr Enoch told NITV.
The Black Diggers Project wil be performed at the Sydney Festival in January.
