Israel has continued a major military operation in the occupied West Bank, and suspected Jewish settlers have moved through two Palestinian towns.

Israeli army forces have also blocked a road leading to a hospital as part of a large-scale military operation at the Jenin refugee camp, where the hospital is located.

The Palestinian health ministry says nine Palestinians have already been killed since the operation started yesterday.

The move into Jenin, where the Israeli army has carried out multiple raids and large-scale incursions over recent years, came only two days after the start of a ceasefire in Gaza.

United States President Donald Trump says he will likely impose sanctions on Russia if Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate about ending the war in Ukraine.

In a social media post Mr Trump gave no details on possible additional sanctions but the United States has already sanctioned Russia heavily for its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The Trump administration is also looking at sending weapons to Ukraine, and wants Chinese President Xi Jinping to do more to stop the Ukraine war.

Twenty-two Democratic-led states and civil rights groups in the United States have filed lawsuits challenging Donald Trump's bid to cancel birthright citizenship.

Following his inauguration, Donald Trump made orders for U-S agencies to refuse to recognise the citizenship of children born in the U-S if neither of their parents is a U-S citizen or legal permanent resident.

The lawsuits argue the executive orders violate the right enshrined in the Citizenship Clause of the Constitution's 14th Amendment, which states anyone born in the U-S automatically becomes a citizen.

California's Attorney General Rob Bonta says the orders are un-American.

"It also violates the Immigration and Nationality Act and flouts more than 125 years, a century and a quarter, of long-standing, well-established precedent set by the U.S. Supreme Court. The president has overstepped his authority by a mile and we will hold him accountable."

Prince Harry has claimed a victory over Rupert Murdoch's United Kingdom newspaper group after the publisher settled his lawsuit and agreed to pay substantial damages.

The younger son of King Charles had been suing News Group Newspapers alleging the papers illegally obtained private information about him between 1996 and 2011.

NGN also admitted it had intruded into the private life of Harry's late mother, Princess Diana.

Sources familiar with the deal say the settlement is for more than [[AU]] $19 million, mostly in legal fees.

Prince Harry's lawyer David Sherborne has spoken outside court.

"In a monumental victory today, News UK have admitted that The Sun, the flagship title for Rupert Murdoch's UK media empire, has indeed engaged in illegal practices."

Victoria Police say they will not be participating in Victoria's Midsumma pride march after organisers prohibited them from marching in uniform.

The policy shift follows a confrontation between attendees and police officers in 2024.

Police participation in pride marches is controversial in the LGBTIQ+ community, because the events have their origins in protest movements against police oppression.

Transgender Victoria has already announced it will not be participating in the Midsumma march over the transgender community's treatment by Victoria Police.

Organisers of the march say police are still able to march as long as they are not in uniform, adding they may wear branded polos or plain clothes.

The Albanese government has announced extra funding for prevention and intervention initiatives aimed at addressing gender-based violence in the Northern Territory.

The funding is part of the Central Australia Plan and will see almost $9 million allocated to four organisations in Alice Springs and surrounding communities.

The organisations receiving the funding are the Central Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Unit, the Central Australian Women’s Legal Services, Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation and the N-P-Y Women’s Council.

Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth says the funding shows a commitment to Central Australia and First Nations communities.

She says the programs funded will help people gain a better legal understanding of gender-based violence laws.

Alex de Minaur has been beaten in his first Australian Open quarter-final against reigning champion and world number one, Jannik Sinner.

Defending champion Sinner dismissed eighth seed de Minaur 6-3 6-2 6-1, in straight sets at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

The Italian champion next faces American Ben Shelton in the semi finals.
