A man has been rescued off the coast of Newcastle after spending 19 hours in the water.
A major rescue operation was launched in the early hours of Friday morning [[Nov 8]], after the Vietnamese national, aged in his 20s, fell from a bulk carrier vessel.
It was a local fisherman who eventually found the man.
Swansea doctor, Glen Valaire, pulled him onto his fishing boat, bundled him in blankets, and brought him back to shore.
Vessel Master of Marine Rescue New South Wales, Jason Richards, says he's relieved the man was saved.
"Very good to get a positive outcome that's for sure, it was quite worrying for quite a while. We got out there pretty quickly, started the search. We were joined by two water police vessels and another marine rescue vessel from Lake Macquarie, two helicopters and a challenger jet so it did become a very big search effort."
Australian Border Force officials are investigating the circumstances around the incident.

Federal energy and climate minister Chris Bowen says electric vehicle ((EV)) owners will be able to use their electric vehicles as batteries on wheels by the end of the year.
Speaking at an E-V conference in Sydney, Mr Bowen says a revised standard is now in place to make bidirectional charging, or reverse charging, possible in Australian homes.
"No longer will charging be a one-way street, you can charge when you want to charge, and you can discharge back to the grid when that suits you. Obviously, you'll be looking at energy prices, or set it up so it happens automatically. It's really putting consumers in charge and the process from now is those manufacturers that enable vehicle to grid charging and those charging companies that enable it can register their products to the clean energy council and get approval."
Vehicle-to-grid technology is hailed by many experts as a critical part of a future grid dominated by renewables.
They say using car batteries will help provide bulk energy when needed and critical grid services.
