Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is reportedly expected to announce he will resign.

Three sources have told the Globe and Mail newspaper they expect Mr Trudeau will announce his plans to leave prior to a key national caucus meeting of the Liberal Party this week.

The report says it remains unclear whether he will leave immediately or stay on as prime minister until a new leader is selected.

Justin Trudeau took over as Liberal leader in 2013, when the party was in deep trouble and had been reduced to third place in the House of Commons for the first time.

His departure would leave the party without a permanent head at a time when polls show the Liberals will badly lose to the Conservatives in an election that must be held by late October.

Australian Golden Globes hopefuls Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett have missed out on awards at today's ceremony, beaten by Fernanda Torres and Jodie Foster, respectively.

Ms Torres is the first Brazilian actress to win a Golden Globe since her mother won one of the awards.

"I want to dedicate it to my mother. You have no idea, she was here 25 years ago and this is like a  proof that art can endure through life even in difficult moments."

It was also a night of triumph for Demi Moore, with her first major award in a 45-year acting career.

The actress was emotional as she accepted the coveted Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Award for the Substance.

Netflix global hit Baby Reindeer was another winner, scoring Best TV limited series, anthology or TV movie, with Jessica Gunning also scooping a Best Actress award for her role in the cult favourite series.

A man charged over the alleged rape and sexual assault of a Virgin Australia crew member in Fiji on New Year's Day is set to appear in a Nadi court today.

But Fijian media are reporting that due to the seriousness of the alleged offences, the matter could be moved to a higher court.

The crew member was reported to be returning to her hotel when the incident occurred.

Another crew member was allegedly robbed in a separate incident.

The incidents happened after an alleged alcohol poisoning in the country in December, where four Australians fell ill after drinking cocktails at a resort.

The Australia government's advice for Australians visiting Fiji remains unchanged, saying Australians should exercise normal safety precautions and bear in mind the highest risk of crime is is in urban areas and at night.

The federal government has announced it would funded 80 per cent of upgrades to the Bruce Highway in Queensland to improve its one-star rating to three stars.

The total cost for the upgrades is estimated to be $9 billion.

The federal government will invest $7.2 billion, and the Queensland government is expected to take the rest.

The Bruce Highway is almost 1,700 kilometres long - linking Brisbane and Cairns.

In recent years, there have been deep concerns about the safety risks it's posed to drivers.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the funding will ensure the safety issue is dealt with once and for all.

"What I am determined to do is to show that Labor in government is delivering for Queensland. We're delivering whether it be this infrastructure investment, whether it be our tax cuts. We care for Queensland families and we care for our nation. And that is what I am determined to do."

The announcement kicks off Labor's pre-election pitch, with a federal election to be held by May. A date has yet to be announced.
