Analysts from the US say a second assassination attempt on Donald Trump, just two months after the first one, should not be seen as a failure on behalf of his security team.

It comes as the former US president was found safe on his golf course in Florida after shots were fired in his direction by a gunman who was later identified by The New York Times and Fox News Channel as 58 year old Ryan Routh.

This is the second attempt made against the president's life, after a 20 year old fired multiple shots with a rifle towards the Republican candidate during a rally in Pennsylvania.

In a statement, US vice president and Mr Trump's opponent for the presidency in the upcoming elections, Kamala Harris, has condemned the second failed assassination attempt.

Former Secret Service Agent Jason Russell has defended Mr Trump's security team, saying they can't be around him at all times.

"These are still human beings and there are limitations to what human beings can do. There are limitations to resources. So in my opinion, you know, having been in that job and knowing how tough it is and the pressure and the demands on an agent from day to day, I see this as a protective, a win. Unfortunately, I think you're going to see that many people are going to see it as yet another failure, and I just don't see it that way.”

Greens leader Adam Bandt has criticised the federal government for refusing to negotiate and attempting to enforce "bandaid" policies on housing.

It comes after the government's attempt to push two housing bills through the Senate, calling the Greens to support the legislations.

The Housing Australia Future Fund and the National Housing Accord are set to deliver close to 14,000 new social and affordable households across the nation.

But Mr Bandt says these policies will not support people who are struggling to keep up with their rental payments.

"Instead of refusing to negotiate with the Greens to fix the housing and rental crisis, Labor should be prepared to wind back those tax handouts for wealthy property investors, put in place a cap and freeze on rents by working with the states, like they did with electricity bills, and to put some serious money into building more public housing."

Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong says Iran is a destabilising force, accusing the nation of spreading conflict across the world.

It comes following further sanctions imposed by the federal government on Iran, after accusations it had supplied Russia with weapons for its military operations against Ukraine.

The government's sanctions are added to those imposed by the U-S, the U-K, France and Germany against the Middle Eastern nation.

Speaking to the ABC, Ms Wong said these actions only prove how much of a threat to world peace Iran has become.

"What this demonstrates is the extent to which the Iranian regime is a destabilising and repressive force. It demonstrates its willingness to ferment conflict elsewhere in the world. We know the destabilising role it has in the region."

Israel has launched a series of missile attacks towards south Lebanon, targeting the Mahmoudiyeh area.

The attack launched by Israeli jets caused a series of explosions that reverberated throughout the region.

It comes following a Houthi rebel attack in central Israel on Sunday, with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing for revenge.

The Israeli forces had warned residents of the south Lebanon region to evacuate earlier in the day by dropping leaflets.

The mayor of Wazzani village, which is located near Lebanon's southern border, Ahmad Alhammad, says they were surprised.

"We were surprised this morning around 7:30-8 am when a drone appeared – we did not know at the time, but we were told that it was called a drone and it dropped leaflets where workers were labouring in a field. The leaflets were dropped directly on them."

In football, Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham have lost 0-1 at home to bitter rivals Arsenal, falling to 13th place on the Premier League ladder.

The single goal from the encounter was scored by Brazilian defender Gabriel who headed in a Bukayo Saka corner kick.

This leaves Postecoglou's team with a single win, a draw and two losses in their first four games of the season.

The Australian coach is facing strong criticism for the fact that his team have been weak to set pieces.

He says he's looking at improving his team's overall performance.

"For the most part we handled them really well today but we switched off for one and we paid a price. And you learn from that and you move on. But it is what it is mate, you know. It's my burden to carry mate and I'm happy to do that. Like I've always said, for me, there's a bigger picture that's at play here that's much more important and the finer details of us getting to where we want."

The win brought Arsenal up to ten points, two short of Manchester City who are currently topping the Premier League table.
