An off-duty police officer from the Miami-Dade Department stumbled upon Sister Margaret Ann hacking away at fallen trees on a blocked road in The Hammocks.

Sister Ann, principal of Archbishop Coleman F. Carroll High School, said she noticed a car struggling to get through the fallen debris and had an idea of how she could help out.

Picking up a chainsaw at the high school, Sister Ann put the gloves on and went straight to work.

"We teach our students - do what you can to help and this was an opportunity where I could do something to help," Sister Ann from Florida told .

"There was a need, I had the means, so I wanted to help out."

She said alumni from the school heard of her clean-up efforts and helped her clear the trees.

"As we recover from , these acts of kindness remind us all that we are  in ! Thank you Sister and all of our neighbors that are working together to get through this!"
