#RunningManChallenge: NYPD responds to New Zealand Police's dance-off

Police from New York have responded to a dance challenge set by their counterparts in New Zealand, in what has become a viral internet dance craze.

New York Police Department posted a video on Facebook of eight officers busting moves in front of the Brooklyn Bridge, in what is the latest video under the social media hashtag #RunningManChallange.

It shows officers doing their own take on the Running Man dance from the 1980s, which comes a day after  to the NYPD,  and .

The 44-second video, which includes students from a local school, has been viewed more than 2.8 million times.
The NYPD captioned the post with a challenge to the  and .

It received mixed reviews, with one Facebook commenting: "All of them need to be placed in cuffed (sic) for destroying the original running man. But it is awesome to see the officers partaking in the community."

Another user said: "But you won't see this on the news. The news only wants people to see the negative stories surrounding the NYPD. What a shame. awesome video."

Sports teams from the NBA posted similar videos as part of the social media campaign.
