Bronwyn Bishop has been given a comical farewell as Speaker on social media, with users symbolically snapping pictures of their wallets outside their doors.
The #PutYourWalletsOut hashtag quickly gained traction in the wake of Mrs Bishop's resignation as Speaker on Sunday, which came after sustained pressure over her use of choppers to travel to fundraisers.
"In the end she took just one helicopter flight too many,” wrote one commentator, adding a picture of his wallet.
“Vale Bronwyn Bishop.”
A flurry of memes in the Twittersphere also marked Mrs Bishop's resignation with several sarcastically posting pictures of sky-written messages announcing "I Resign".
Another photoshopped a helicopter over Parliament House with the caption: "After quitting, Bronwyn leaves work in a huff."
As for her replacement, a picture of Prince Philip was accompanied by a caption suggesting the royal would be a frontrunner for Speaker.
"Said to be "captain's pick" the post added.
But it was also a four-year-old tweet from Prime Minister Tony Abbott which gained much attention.
Mr Abbott, as opposition leader in 2011, criticised the-then Gillard government over the resignation of Harry Jenkins as Speaker.
"The Speaker's resignation reflects a government that is in chaos. The Govt has lost its way, lost its majority and now lost its speaker," he had written.
That post has more than 2000 retweets as of Monday.
"That awkward moment when your tweets come back to bite you," one commentator wrote in response.
