A monkey escaped from its crate at San Antonio airport in Texas on Monday, roaming free on the tarmac before being caught.
The primate was on board an American Airlines flight and got loose when its crate was moved from the plane's cargo hold to the baggage area.
American Airlines said the monkey was flying from Chicago to San Antonio to be placed in the nearby Born Free Primate Sanctuary.
CNN said the airport initially identified the monkey as a baboon, but Brown University said it was a Rhesus macaque.
The monkey was reportedly shot with a tranquiliser before continuing its journey.
The Born Free Primate Sanctuary confirmed that the primate made it safely to its destination on Monday evening.
San Antonio airport announced that several flights were delayed because of "wildlife issues".
