Melbourne Star Wars fans use The Force to build massive Lego Millennium Falcon

Melbourne Star Wars fans have used 'the force' to complete a five-metre, 250,000-Lego brick homage to Han Solo's fictional Millennium Falcon.

A 250,000-Lego brick model of Star Wars' most iconic starship, the Millennium Falcon, has been brought to life in Melbourne but won't be flying anytime soon.

The final piece of Han Solo's fictional spaceship was put in place on Tuesday at Chadstone Shopping Centre, completing an arduous build spanning two weeks.

Fans of George Lucas' long-running space odyssey pieced together the stunning five-metre replica as Star Wars-mania soars amid the release of The Last Jedi film.

But before Star Wars nuts add a giant intergalactic starship to their 2018 Christmas wishlist, they should know the creation is only a prototype.

The replica mega ship was upscaled by linking tiny bricks in a timely process requiring the help of thousands of families.

"If we were to do it by ourselves, probably at least a month," Legoland master builder Dave Holder said of the project's alternative timeline.

"But when you have kids helping it really speeds up the process, and we managed to finish really quickly."

Star Wars is currently experiencing a resurgence among junior ranks, with the series' eighth installment taking more than US$1 billion at the international box office since its mid-December release.

"Younger kids are just loving Star Wars at the moment," Mr Holder said.

"(The replica) really blows their mind. For them, it's as large as life (and) they are helping build it."
