Airbnb has released its 2024 travel predictions, revealing the top 24 destinations for Australians looking to go on holiday next year.
Indianapolis, Philadelphia and Colorado Springs in the US all made the list, as did Warsaw in Poland and Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto in Japan.
Melbourne, the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires, Marrakesh in Morocco, Rio de Janeiro, Maceió and Salvador in Brazil and Paris, France, were also on it, as were Dusseldorf in Germany and Puerto del Carmen in Spain's Canary Islands.

Dallas in the US, Mexico City, Mexico, and Nassau in the Bahamas rounded out the list.
Japan comes out on top
When it came to international destinations for Australians, Japan overwhelmingly topped the list.
Based on worldwide searches for future travel in 2024 gathered from 1 January to 30 September 2023, Australian travellers are looking at places such as Taito, Shibuya, Myoko, Shinjuku, Hakuba, Osaka, Kyoto and Nozawaonsen in Japan.
Hong Kong and Taipei, Taiwan, also cracked the list.
Airbnb noted that Japan topped the list of locations that had the highest increase in searches from 2023 to 2024, three times more than the previous year.
Taiwan, Albania, Singapore, Finland, the United Arab Emirates, Curacao, Aruba, Thailand and Guatemala followed.
Staying local
For those wanting to stay closer to home, the following locations were some of the trending Australian destinations for next year.
In Queensland, Rockhampton, Townsville and Ipswich were top picks, while searchers looking at Victoria chose Melbourne's Richmond and East Melbourne.
When it came to NSW, Sydney Olympic Park and Moore Park led the list, followed by Parramatta.
North Adelaide was also included.
