Bill Shorten is headed across the ditch to meet with New Zealand's Labour prime minister Jacinda Ardern.
The opposition leader will have an informal dinner with Ms Ardern in Auckland on Saturday evening.
New Zealand's ongoing offer to resettle 150 refugees from Manus Island, rejected by the Turnbull government but supported by the opposition, is likely to be a discussion topic.
Mr Shorten flagged they would also talk about common policy priorities including education, housing affordability, healthcare and renewable energy.
"Australia and New Zealand share a proud history and a deep friendship," he said on Twitter.
