The federal opposition has welcomed a move by the Abbott government to increase cultural diversity amongst the ranks of the Defence Force, but says it won't be an easy or quick task.
An initiave to increase efforts to recruit a more culturally and linguistically diverse workforce will be put in place in coming months and the government says it hopes it will suceed, and quickly.
The Opposition Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Gai Brodtmann says it's an important plan but will need to be handled carefully.
She spoke to Amanda Cavill about the task ahead for the ADF.
