Two years after COVID-19 sent the country into lockdown, there's been almost 10 million cases of the virus in Australia.
More than 12,000 people have died with 93 per cent of these aged over 60, according to federal health department data from 4 August.
Victoria has recorded the most deaths, with 39 per cent located in this state, despite it only accounting for around 26 per cent of recorded cases.
Around 35 per cent of deaths have been in NSW, which has recorded around 34 per cent of cases.
Case numbers may not be completely reliable as authorities say real figures could be double what is being recorded.
Around the world there have been 6.4 million deaths reported to the World Health Organisation, and 578 million cases. Almost one million new COVID-19 cases are being reported every day.
