Who says the only poll that counts is the one on election day?
Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has taken toto cast the ballot box open to the people of New England about an important issue: what do you reckon, the old hat or the new one?

The outspoken Nationals MP, who also serves as the Agriculture Minister, has made headlines with his ongoing war of words with film star Johnny Depp and his comments linking asylum seekers and live exports.

This time, however, he's not afraid to pull any punches - on himself.

"I've announced millions of dollars for new dams and inland rail this week but my new hat is getting all the attention," he writes.

"Now, I've got two hats and only one head. Which hat do you think is best?"

Facebook users are them prompted to answer a.) Old brown hat b.) New cream hat or c.) Keep both hats. Lose the head.

At the time of writing, the new cream hat was winning with 57% of the vote.

But you know what they say - a day is a long time in politics.
