Coldplay, Ellie Goulding and Germany's top-selling singer Herbert Groenemeyer are headlining a free concert to take place in Hamburg on the eve of the G20 summit in July.

The Global Citizen Festival, established in 2012 and directed by Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin, will take place on July 6 "to send a clear signal against poverty and inequality and for international cooperation and open societies," the organisation said.

The event, organised by the Global Poverty Project, is free for people who contribute to charity acts via the festival's website such as watching videos and signing petitions.

Artists to have headlined the Global Citizen Festival in previous years include the Foo Fighters, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Rihanna and Metallica.

Germany holds the G20 presidency this year, and the summit is set to take place from July 7-8.
