Australia's MH17 death toll rises

The number of Australian permanent residents who were passengers on the doomed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 has been revised up to nine.

Another permanent Australian resident has been identified as being among those killed on flight MH17.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has advised Prime Minister Tony Abbott's office that an additional Western Australian was aboard the Malaysia Airlines plane when it was shot down over eastern Ukraine.

It takes the official tally of people who called Australia home until they died aboard the doomed flight to 37.

Among these were 28 citizens.
