Australia 'can cut emissions deeply'

A new report suggests it is possible for Australia to reach zero net emissions by 2050.

Australia is capable of reaching zero net emissions by 2050, says a report from the Australian National University's Centre for Climate Economics and Policy, commissioned by WWF Australia.

The ambitious reduction is possible by moving to a zero-carbon electricity system, promoting energy efficiency, as well as improving industrial processes, it found, adding how the cost of renewables is falling.

The report - entitled Australia can cut emissions deeply and the cost is low - outlines that remaining greenhouse gas emissions could be fully offset through carbon farming and forestry.
