A group of activists have unfurled a 25-metre banner across Westminister Bridge in London, demanding: "Abolish Australia Day".
With the British Houses of Parliament standing in the background, London Australia Solidarity Activism Hub spokeswoman Eda Sehyan said the banner was "a visible sign of solidarity to Indigenous people in Australia who see the day [Australia Day] as a day of morning and protest".
About 30 attendees held up the banner on a Friday evening in the city, coinciding with a number of Indigenous events marking the date around Australia.

"I think it's particularly important to do this in London, this is the former hub of empire," Ms Sahyan said.
"So Australia's story of colonisation, celebrated on Australia Day, really started here.
"I think it's important really for us here as Australians and non-Australians, to mobilise and show our solidarity with those who were the victims of that act of colonisation and continue to be victimised."

. For this reason, many Indigenous people - and an increasing number of non-Indigenous people - see it as a day of mourning and refer to it as 'Invasion Day' or 'Survival Day'.
