At least 22 militants have been killed during clashes near the border between Syria and Lebanon in the past 24 hours, according to a British-based war monitor.

Among those killed were at least 18 Islamic State militants, while the rest were from Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The clashes are taking place in the Syrian region of Jaroud in Western Qalamoun, bordering Lebanon.

On Saturday, the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) said the IS attacked positions of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham organisation in Wadi Hmayed area in Arsal region, bordering Syria.

The NNA added that the Lebanese army also used heavy artillery to bombard fighters in those areas, where a lack of security has prevailed since August 2014.
