Anzac Day 2018: Here's what's open and closed across Australia

Here's a list of what's open, what's not, and what's happening across the country on Anzac Day, as Australians prepare for the public holiday.

Dawn services in major cities

Sydney: 4:30am at the Cenotaph in Martin Place.

Melbourne: 6am at the Shrine of Remembrance in Kings Domain.

Brisbane: 4:28am at the Shrine of Remembrance in Anzac Square.

Canberra: 5:30 am at the Australian War Memorial. From 4:30am "excerpts from the letters and diaries of Australians who experienced war firsthand will be read aloud".

Perth: 6am at the State War Memorial in Kings Park.

Adelaide: 6am at South Australian National War Memorial.

Darwin: 6am at Cenotaph in Bicentennial Park.

Hobart: 6am at the Hobart War Memorial (Cenotaph) in Queens Domain.

Supermarkets

Most Woolworths supermarkets in NSW, Victoria and the ACT will be open from 1pm onwards. But in Sydney, the Met Centre and 333 George Street stores will be closed. In Melbourne, the Collins Square and Melbourne Central locations will also be closed.




The majority of Woolworths supermarkets will be shut in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, aside from a few which will open in the afternoon.

All Woolworths stores in Tasmania will be open from 12:30pm.

Northern Territory Woolworths outlets will have regular trading hours.

Coles supermarkets in Tasmania will open at 12:30pm, while outlets in Victoria, NSW, the ACT and Northern Territory will open at 1pm.

In South Australia and Western Australia, Coles store closures vary throughout the states. 

Some Coles Express stores around the country will have normal trading hours.

Bottle shops and licensed venues

Dan Murphy's and BWS be open from 1pm.

Most outlets of Liquorland, First Choice, Vintage Cellars and Liquor Market will be open from midday in Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia and 1pm in NSW, ACT, Queensland and NT.

Rules around pubs and clubs vary significantly by state.

Some venues will allow two-up, which has its origins in the trenches of World War I. It involves two coins being tossed into the air after players bet on whether they will land on two heads, two tails or one of each ("odds").

Public transport

Public transport will operate to different timetables in numerous states and territories. Commuters are advised to check the website of their local public transport network.

In some states and territories, there are additional trains buses or ferries for dawn services.

Cinemas

Cinema across Australia will be open on Anzac Day. In some states and territories, cinemas will operate at normal working hours while in other states and territories, cinemas will operate at restricted hours.
