Scientists all over the world are using this tool, and while it is too soon to tell what the overall feedback is, we are expecting that this development will save years worth of work, says Dr Khushi

Dr Matloob Khushi completed his education in Lahore, Pakistan before leaving for the UK in 2005 and eventually coming to Australia in 2006.

He received his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from the University of Sydney for developing novel software tools and methods for investigating the significance of overlapping transcription factor genomic interactions. He has 17 years of experience in software development and data science, currently he is serving as a postdoctoral bioinformatician at the Children’s Medical Research Institute where he works on developing novel algorithms to interpret complex biological data.

Dr Khushi has recently developed an image processing tool, MatCol, that will help detect cancer more quickly.

"Lab scientists manually study and screen body cells of a cancer patient to determine cure, which takes days. And even if they find out a drug which is effective in a particular case, it takes plenty of time to figure out the exact dosage. Sometimes it takes months just to complete a small process. But if we can automate this process it can save a lot of time and help more people,"he tells

"Scientists all over the world are using this tool, and while it is too soon to tell what the overall feedback is, we are expecting that this development will save years worth of work."

Dr Khushi is proud to be a member of the Pakistani Australian community and has extended helping hand to anyone who wants to either study and work in his area of research. He can be reached at [email protected].
