In Ukraine humanitarian needs are growing and spreading rapidly as military operations also intensify.
According to the UN data, as of 20 March, over 3,3 million people have been forced to flee Ukraine to neighbouring countries, including 162,000 third-country nationals. At least 1.9 million people have been internally displaced.
Financial contributions to reputable aid agencies are one of the most valuable and effective forms of response in humanitarian emergencies.
Here are some charities that are trying to bring aid to the people in Ukraine:
- - has been working with Caritas Ukraine since 2014 to help people affected by the humanitarian crisis, and is providing essential emergency goods including shelter, food relief and cash distributions.
- - a collaboration between the (AFUO), Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and - is the largest Australian tax-deductible fundraising effort for Ukraine. All funds toward urgent humanitarian aid items such as food, clean water, blankets, seeking emergency housing, clothing, medical assistance and more.
- - focuses on providing medical supplies and humanitarian aid, and raising awareness of the conflict.
- - aims to help children affected by the war in eastern Ukraine, providing support through art therapy, psychologists, video storytelling and a number of other methods.
- – providing first aid, supporting health facilities with medicines and equipment, providing families with food, shelter and hygiene items, delivering much-needed water, and repairing vital infrastructure.
- – aim to support for families in evacuation sites or in villages, to help distribute emergency items such as blankets, medicine and hygiene kits, and to help neighbouring countries including Poland, Romania and Lithuania to support people fleeing Ukraine.

- - trucking safe water and prepositioning health, hygiene and emergency education supplies to the most vulnerable children and families. Provides warm winter clothes and a blanket and essential psychosocial support. In neighbouring countries, UNICEF is re-activating the 'Blue Dot' safe spaces to provide crucial support to families on the move. Teams are helping to identify unaccompanied and separated children and focus on family reunification and protection.
- - working with local partners in Poland, Hungary and Romania to provide emergency relief, dignity kits, trauma counselling and safe spaces to prevent gender-based violence.
- - the funds will support emergency response for displaced children and families in Ukraine and neighbouring countries to provide essentials such as hygiene kits, nappies and first aid supplies. It will also help set up child friendly spaces where children can receive psychosocial support and recover some sense of normality after what they’ve been through.
- – aim to address the escalating needs of women and girls in Ukraine and those who have had to flee to neighbouring countries.
