ਇੱਕ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਪੋਰੇਟ ਰੈਗੂਲੇਟਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਢਾਈ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਕੈਦ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਕੁਈਨਸਲੈਂਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੋਲ੍ਡ ਕੋਸਟ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ 42 ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਸਤਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਿਰਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਊਥਪੋਰਟ ਜ਼ਿਲਾ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਤਕਰੀਬਨ 8 ਲੱਖ ਡੋਲਰ ਦੀ ਠੱਗੀ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ।
ਬਿਰਕ ਤੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਸਨੇ ਸਾਲ 2010 ਅਤੇ 2011 ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੰਜ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਾਹਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਠੱਗੀ ਮਾਰੀ। ਇਕ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਠੱਗੀ ਦਾ ਪੈਸੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

A former financial adviser and accountant has been jailed for two and a half years following an investigation by Australia’s corporate regulator.
42-year-old Satvir Singh Birk from the Gold Coast was sentenced on Wednesday in the Southport District Court over charges pertaining to defrauding his clients of almost $800,000.
Australian Securities and Investment Commission Commissioner Danielle Press said Mr Birk’s conviction will send out a message.
“Mr Birk’s actions were dishonest and betrayed the trust of his clients. [The] decision shows this type of behaviour will be met with serious consequences,’ Ms Danielle said.
Mr Birk was charged with five counts of fraud in July 2016 following an ASIC investigation. He was released on various conditions, including that he reside at his current address and notify the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions of any change of residence.
He pleaded guilty to the charges against him in May this year.
The charges related to conduct between September 2010 and October 2011, while Mr Birk was an authorised representative of a financial investment company. ASIC launched an investigation against him after the company reported Mr Birk’s conducted to the regulator.
The regulator alleged that Mr Birk dishonestly used his position caused cheques to be drawn on a client’s superannuation account without authorisation, deceived some clients to use the funds from their superannuation accounts and misled clients in the purchase of units in an unlisted investment scheme.
He was also accused of directing the proceeds from another client to his own father.
In July last year, he was permanently banned from providing financial services.
Following his conviction in the Southport District Court, Mr Birk has been sentenced to two and a half years’ imprisonment. He is to be released after serving four months upon entering into a recognisance order of $10,000 upon the condition that he be of good behaviour for a period of two and a half years.
