The attack, which NSW police describe as ‘cowardly’ and ‘vicious’, was caught on CCTV camera and the police are appealing for public assistance to hunt for the alleged attacker.

“It certainly is a cowardly, vicious attack on someone who was just sitting there and just having a break and looking at their mobile phone, perhaps waiting for the next job to go to, minding his own business and then being set up on like that,” said the police.

The police said the man then threatened the rider with a knife, demanding money, before he was forced to walk to a nearby ATM. But he ran into a pizza shop alerting staff of the incident.

“He (rider) was brave. He had the opportunity to see that there was a store open and go into the store and raise the alarm. He did sustain injuries but was not badly injured,” said the police.

The man then ran back to the bench and stole the rider’s bike, food delivery bag and wallet, which the police said contained cards and cash.
Following inquiries, the police have released CCTV footage of a man, who they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

The man is described as being Pacific Islander/Maori in appearance, 178cm tall, with an athletic build.

“At this stage, it is a one-off crime related to this particular person,” said the police.

He is seen in the vision wearing a black peaked cap, a grey hoodie jumper, dark coloured shorts, red and white joggers, and a small backpack worn on the front.
