A woman in the US has been jailed for life for killing four people including an Indian management student in 2015.

26-year-old Adacia Chambers pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree murders and 39 counts of assault and battery, Associated Press reported.

It was alleged that she purposely steered her car around a police barricade and ploughed it into the crowd watching a homecoming parade in Oklahoma. Four people were killed and several other were treated for injuries.

Witnesses described  at the scene, as Chambers continued to drive.

Among the victims was 23-year-old Nikita Prabhakar who had arrived from Mumbai to study MBA just three months ago.

In the court, Chambers showed sympathy for her victims.

“If only I could change the past. My prayers are always with the victims. I was suffering from psychosis that day,” she said in the court.

Her attorney said she pleaded guilty at the start of the court proceedings to save the victim’s families a lengthy trial which could take months.

Chambers will now serve four concurrent life sentences for the murder counts, and 39 additional 10-year terms to run concurrently for each assault charge, Reuters reported quoting court documents.

The other victims who lost their lives included an elderly couple and a two-year-old child.
