If you have aviophobia, in other words- if you have fear of flying, this video may not exactly be helpful to you. But millions of others have watched it within less than a week of it being online.
An aviation videographer from Düsseldorf, Germany, recently filmed an Airbus A380 landing in strong crosswinds at Dusseldorf airport, which has been watched over ten million times since it was posted on YouTube on October 5.
The dramatic video shows the A380-world’s largest passenger airliner, can be seen wobbling in strong crosswinds as it approaches the runway. As the wide-body double-decker plane touches down, it bounces and swerves frighteningly.
“Honestly, while I filmed this video I was shocked and my heart rate was going crazy. On my small video monitor, I just saw some movements from left to right and I wasn’t sure what would happen next.,” said Martin who filmed the plan’s landing.
The pilot managed to steady the plane within seconds of touching down.
“At first it looked like a pretty normal crosswind approach but after touchdown, the pilots tried to align with the runway which looked pretty incredible,” said Martin, wondering how the passengers might have felt during the initial scary moments of the landing.
“I have never seen such a tremendous reaction of an aeroplane after a touchdown. You can see that the pilots tried to align with the runway by using the tail rudder and luckily it worked out. This video shows the incredible skills of the pilots. Even after an unexpected wind gust after touchdown, they managed to re-align with the runway. Incredible job by the pilots !!” Martin said.
After the video went viral online, Emirates airlines said in a statement that the flight’s safety was not at risk at any time.
"Emirates flight EK 55 on October 5, 2017, landed safely in Dusseldorf under strong crosswind conditions. At no point was the safety of the passengers and crew onboard compromised," an Emirates spokesperson told Khaleej Times.
