Two people have been arrested on Sunday morning in connection with an aggravated burglary in Caroline Springs in Melbourne’s west.

Police have arrested a 17-year-old and a 14-year-old boy. The duo was arrested by police just after 4am in Etzel Street, Airport West.

The arrests have been made following an aggravated robbery at an Indian-Australian family’s home in Caroline Springs on Saturday morning, that was terrorised into handing over the keys of their two cars to the four burglars. A Honda CRV and a Honda Civic were stolen besides a mobile phone.

Richa Walia, a restaurant owner, was at home with her parents and younger brother when the alleged offenders broke in. Richa said they were armed with metal rods and a baseball bat, and that if she and her family hadn’t acceded to their demands, they would have caused them serious harm.
The arrested boys are currently being interviewed by the police.

Both will also be questioned in relation to another aggravated burglary at a residential property in Taylors Lakes about 3.55am this morning.

Vehicles were stolen during both incidents and no one was physically injured.

In a statement, Victoria Police says it has escalated its response to aggravated burglaries and carjackings across the state with Operation Cosmas launched at the start of May that has seen investigators drawing together under the umbrella of Crime Command.
