Police are seeking public assistance to help identify a man that was struck and killed by a train in Melbourne's south-east over nine years ago.
Investigators believe the man entered the railway line at the Pakenham Railway Station ahead of a stationary Melbourne bound train about 9.15pm on Thursday 14 August, 2008.
The train moved off and, unknown to the driver, struck the man, Police said.
The man was then struck by a second Melbourne bound train about 10 minutes later, on this occasion the train driver sighted the man and raised the alarm.
His death is not being treated as suspicious.
Despite extensive enquiries to try and identify him, police have yet to work out who he is so they can notify next of kin.
Detective Senior Constable Mick Van Der Heyden from Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit believes someone in the community will know who this man is.
“We urge that person to contact Crime Stoppers," he said.
“This man would have had a family; he would have been someone’s son, he could have been a brother, a father, an uncle or a friend.
“I have no doubt that his family would dearly love to know what has happened to their loved one, and we would like to identify this man and bring some closure for the family.”
Investigators are now re-releasing a digital face image and CCTV image of the man, as well as a previously unreleased image of a distinctive jacket he was wearing, in the hope that someone may be able to identify him.
The man is perceived to be of Indian sub-continental appearance.
He was aged between 20 and 30 years old and approximately 170cms tall, with an olive complexion, short dark hair and unshaven.
He was wearing a distinctive sports club jacket, believed to be from New South Wales, with a logo stating “Valley Statesman Rugby League”.
Detectives have identified the original owner of the jacket, and believe it was discarded either in Pakenham or Doncaster in the months prior to the man’s death.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at
