Two people have died in separate incidents allegedly related to currency change rules in India.

A 40 year old woman in Gorakhpur has allegedly died from shock after learning that the bank will not accept her two Rs 1,000 notes that she had been saving for some time.

reported that the woman, named Tirtharaji only came to know about the changes when she reached the bank. The picture of her lying on the ground with Rs 1,000 denomination notes and pass book has since gone viral on the social media.

District magistrate Kushinagar Shambhu Kumar said, “Officials from the revenue department have been asked to visit the house of the deceased woman. If it comes out to be a death due to shock then necessary action will be taken.”

In a separate incident, an 8 year old girl has died allegedly due to delay in treatment because her father, who was driving her to the hospital could not get petrol in time because he was carrying 1,000 rupee notes with him which the petrol station refused to accept.
