A rock was thrown at the Australian cricket team bus in India that shattered a window. No one was injured in the incident which happened when the team was returning to its hotel in Guwahati after their win over India at Barsapara Stadium on Wednesday morning.
Australian opener Aaron Finch had tweeted a picture of the broken window captioned, “Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!!”
Now, to make up for the embarrassing act, many Indian cricket lovers have gathered outside Australian cricket team’s hotel in Guwahati holding posters of apology. In pictures shared on Twitter, people can be seen holding signs saying,
“It is shameful for us that some bad people threw rock to the team Australia,” and “Sorry Aussie”
Cricket Australia had stated that the rock was roughly of a cricket ball size. Their website also mentioned that the authorities had arrested two people in this connection.
"The police have already arrested two persons and are investigating into the matter," ACA secretary Pradip Buragohain told Press Trust of India.
Local government minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed his apologies and vowed to "punish the guilty"
The incident has further prompted the authorities to tighten security around the Australia team for the third and final T20I in Hyderabad as well as during their stays until the tour end. There was an increased security presence on Wednesday for Australia's 15km journey to the LGB Airport ahead of their flight to Hyderabad; officers in military uniform and armed with rifles lined much of the streets between the hotel and the airport.
