A 44-year-old Indian man has died in hospital following a collision in Brighton East on Tuesday evening.
Girish and his wife Devika were walking on a road in the inner south-eastern suburb.
As they were crossing the road, a vehicle travelling north on Hawthorn Road commenced a right turn onto North Road colliding with both of them.
Girish had suffered serious head and chest injuries. He was rushed to The Alfred Hospital after paramedics stabilised his condition.
Girish succumbed to his injuries last evening.
His wife, Devika also suffered critical head injuries. She was also rushed to the same hospital in critical condition.
Devika is still under treatment at the hospital.
The couple reportedly arrived from India just three weeks ago from Chennai (India) through their employer in Melbourne.
Their two children also arrived in Australia with them.
Family members have arrived in Australia who are attending Devika in the hospital.
The driver of the car, a 60-year-old man, was not injured.
With Girish’s death, the death toll has risen to 28 more than the last year’s total.
