An Indian national is among a dozen convicted criminals who have been deported from Australia last week, the Australian Border Force said.
According to the ABF, a 31-year-old Indian national who had been previously convicted for using a carriage service to groom a child for sex, was deported from Sydney on Friday, 14th September. He had been sentenced to two years imprisonment.
ABF Commander Field and Removal Operations said the force is committed to protecting the Australian community.
“The ABF plays a critical role in locating, detaining and removing unlawful non-citizens that pose a threat to the Australian community, particularly those involved in exploiting children and the vulnerable,” Commander Copeman said.
Others among those deported included three UK nationals, including a 79-year-old man convicted of numerous counts of assault and committing an act of indecency against a child under 16 years, and three New Zealand nationals, who were convicted of serious crimes, some having been sentenced to time in jail.
“We will continue to identify those foreign nationals who have been convicted of violent offences, drug offences or crimes against children and will remove them as quickly as possible. The Australian public has a right to feel safe,” ABF Commander Copeman said.
