India’s External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj has assured the family of an Indian student who was stabbed to death on Christmas in Christchurch, New Zealand.
26-year-old Hardeep Singh Deol’s family has been assured of all possible help by the EAM after the news of his death was published by the Indian media.
Mrs. Swaraj said she had instructed India’s high commissioner in New Zealand after she saw reports of Hardeep’s death. Offering her condolences, she told the family that she would personally speak to them and they weren’t required to come to Delhi to meet her or the New Zealand’s high commissioner in Delhi.

India Today has reported that Singh’s family had earlier failed to receive any help after they contacted the Indian high commissioner in New Zealand and the NZ high commissioner in New Delhi.
Hardeep was reportedly stabbed on the Christmas Day and later died in a hospital.
A 22-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with his murder after she reportedly confessed to her crime.
The woman identified as Franchesca Kororia Borell is said have been in a relationship with Singh. The reason behind the crime is still unclear.
Hardeep's friends in New Zealand have been collecting funds to help repatriate his body to India.
