In his special message for the diaspora in Australia, Minister Hawke said Indian-Australians are an "integral part of the Australian community," who have contributed to the growth and prosperity of the country.

"With over 700,000 people of Indian ancestry calling Australia home today, Indian-Australians continue to be important contributors to our nation’s multicultural success story," he wrote.

He added that Australia stands with India as the country continues to battle the devastation of recent COVID-19 outbreaks and will continue to provide support wherever possible.

"I thank you for your resilience and determination as we support each other and work towards recovery in these difficult times," he added.
