Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh on Thursday unveiled his wax statue at Madame Tussauds Museum in Delhi where it will be on display among wax figures of top national and international celebrities.
“From Dosanjh Kalan [his village] to Madame Tussauds Delhi,” the Soorma star tweeted adding that he had been blessed with more than what he deserved.
Dosanjh who began his career as a Punjabi singer and then became a superstar of the Punjabi film industry before making a foray into Bollywood said it was a dream come true for him.
"I saw a long queue outside the museum and I asked my friend 'What is inside?'. I come from a village and I had never seen such things before. At that point of time, I really wished to get inside the museum and today I am a part of the family,” he said.
Attired in a black tuxedo and looking every bit like a Punjabi 007, Dosanjh said it was a special moment for him to be the first turbaned Sikh to have a statue at the museum.
"It is a big moment for me and my fans that a man wearing a turban and representing Sikh culture has a wax statue here for the first time," he said.
"I never thought that I would visit Madame Tussauds to unveil my own wax figure. Today, I got to know how I actually look. A big thank you to the team of Madame Tussauds who have worked so hard.”
The Punjabi superstar first shared the news of his wax statue last year in July when he posted a picture and captioned it “Finally, yeh din bhi aa gaya” (Finally, the day has come).
Diljit Dosanjh had a meteoric rise in the Punjabi entertainment industry where he first began as a singer but quickly proved his mettle onscreen as an actor. He debuted into Bollywood with the 2016 film Udta Punjab where worked opposite Kareena Kapoor. He also featured in Phillauri, opposite Anushka Sharma.
He was also a part of the 2018 comedy Welcome To New York, alongside Sonakshi Sinha.
His latest release was Soorma, a biopic based on the life of the former captain of the Indian hockey team, Sandeep Singh.
