Captains of all ten participating teams including India skipper Virat Kohli met Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Sussex Prince Harry at Buckingham Palace in Central London on Wednesday.

While the players were being hosted by the Royal Family ahead of the 2019 ICC World Cup opener, Twitter on the other hand, was having a field day.

Pitch-perfect memes started flying out in full swing as soon as the pictures of the British monarch greeting the Indian captain graced the internet, with many fans appealing to Kohli to ‘bring back the Kohinoor’.
For the uninitiated, Kohinoor is a 105-carat diamond which sits at the Tower of London and is part of the Crown Jewels.

It has been a bone of contention between India and Britain ever since it was taken from the-then rulers of Punjab and presented to Queen Victoria in the 19th century, with India consistently pushing for its return ever since.

Now cricket fans in India are jocularly hoping that captain Kohli would do what Indian administration couldn’t, in the past decades - bring home the gem.

Here are some of the jewels from Twitter.
Some fans even went ahead and likened the Kohli to Kohinoor, dubbing him as the ‘Kohlinoor’- ‘the real diamond of India’.
Kohli-led India will open its World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5.
