Punjab Congress president, Captain Amarinder Singh faced the wrath of protesters in California, the US where he is canvassing the Punjabi NRIs for the 2017 Punjab elections.

The protesters raised pro-Khalistan slogans as the former Punjab chief minister stepped out of the conference venue. As the driver of Amrinder's car took a detour in order to avoid the protesters, they hurled bottles at the vehicle.

A video on facebook page 'Sikhs for Justice' shows protesters raising slogans while Amrinder, surrounded by several people, sat in his car. The video description reads "the clash" occurred when a survivor of 1984 anti-Sikh violence dared to questioned Capt Amarinder Singh about Congress leader Jagdish Tytler's role in the violence.

Amrinder has maintained that he did not believe Tytler was involved in killings of innocent Sikhs in 1984.

"One of the victims of 1984 genocide, Mohinder Singh, who tried to enter the venue of the conference to question Amarinder on the involvement of Congress men in the genocide, was not allowed. This ignited a protest," Gurpatwant Singh Pannu of the Sikhs for Justice told The Tribune.

Amarinder has already had to cancel his visit to neighbouring Canada, where Sikh groups were preparing for similar protests, after he was denied permission to hold political gatherings.
