Bollywood singer Mika Singh was arrested in the UAE on Thursday over allegations of sexual harassment.
Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Navdeep Suri told the that the singer sought consular access and the officials of the embassy were working on his case.
Mika Singh was reportedly arrested following a police complaint by a 17-year-old Brazilian model, alleging the singer sent her inappropriate pictures. The arrest came when Mika was in Dubai for an awards ceremony and he was later scheduled to perform at private parties.
A member of the singer’s team told news agency ANI that Singh had been “detained” following a complaint by a girl and that he was being questioned by the police.
The Gulf News reported quoting sources that the complainant accused Mika of sending her “indecent” pictures, promising her work in a Bollywood film. After the arrest, he is reportedly locked up in a prison in Abu Dhabi.
Mika was scheduled to return to India after performing at a party following his appearance at a Bollywood awards function in Dubai. He will now appear in a court on Sunday.
This is not the first time, the singer has found himself in trouble due to his behaviour. In 2006, Indian actress Rakhi Sawant alleged that he had forcibly kissed her at his birthday party.
A Mumbai-based model filed a police complaint in 2016 that Singh had molested her. Mika Singh, however, filed a complaint against the model alleging she was trying to extort money from him. He was earlier arrested in an alleged case of assault during a concert.
