A plaque to honour the Indian Anzac, Private Nain Singh Sailani

The ultimate sacrifice made 100 years ago by Private Nain Singh Sailani, who enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in 1916 and was killed while on active duty in June 1917, has been remembered in Perth last weekend, with a plaque dedication at Kings Park.

The Honour Plaque Dedication service was conducted by the Kings Park Honour Avenues Group of Highgate RSL in May Circle Kings Park, Perth, on the morning of Saturday November 18, 2017.

The Remembrance Service was conducted to pay tribute to Pte Nain Singh Sailani and 11 other servicemen who laid their lives in the line of duty during WWI.

Pte Nain Singh Sailani was one of 12 known Indian Anzacs who enlisted into the Australian Imperial Force during WWI, and one of two Indian Anzacs, who were killed in the Belgian campaign, the other being Pte Sarn Singh. Both remain buried in Belgium, alongside fellow Australian soldiers who were killed in action. 

Earlier in the year, a ceremony was held in Perth's War Memorial in Kings Park, to mark the centenary of the passing of Pte Nain Singh Sailani.
Following that, another ceremony was held on Saturday, November 18 at Perth's Kings Park, to commemorate Pte Sailani's contribution to Australia during WWI.

Mr Gurdarshan Singh Kailley, the President of Sikh Association of WA (SAWA) received a remembrance plaque from the CEO of Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority and the H.A.G. chairman. 

Among other formalities, the Last Post was played which was followed by a minute of silence, to pay tribute to the fallen heroes. The Remembrance ceremony was concluded with the Prayer by Chaplain.

Afterwards, members of Sikh Association of WA (SAWA) were escorted to the allocated tree by H.A.G. member to attach the Plaque to its post. This ceremony was joined by SAWA Trustees and other prominent members of the community. Mr Yaz Mubarakai, MLA and Mr Amit Mishra, Consulate General of India were also present at this historic Event.

Mr Tarunpreet Singh and Mr Amarjit Singh Pabla from Australian Sikh Heritage were also present, who shone a light on the  gallant contributions made by Indian Anzacs like Pte Sailani, to the Australian Imperial Force during WWI.
